About the Project

Newsletter Archive: Issue 09 - April 2003

Digitisation Begins

Digitisation has begun on the research completed by local people on our courses. There should be some of the research up on the website soon, we will keep you informed of further progress.

Volunteers Needed to Digitise

We are looking for volunteers to help digitise research that has been completed. We already have a wonderful team of volunteers who are helping us at the moment and we would like to say a big thanks to them for all their hard work. If you would like to be involved in digitising some research please get in touch with one of our team.

Yesterday Belongs to You

The Yesterday Belongs to You event was a brilliant success yet again with visits from between two and three thousand people. Visitors were impressed by the examples of research that were on display in the Durham Miner area. We are now making plans for our next big event which is the Miners' Gala on Saturday 12th July.

Oral History Courses

The first oral history course will begin on Monday 12th May. Unfortunately all of the places on this course have been taken but further courses are being arranged at various locations. Please check our course timetable for further details. Places are limited so if you want to attend a course please get in touch with Sheila Forster, our Oral History Co-ordinator, or another member of the team.

Staff Introductions

We would like to introduce you to Sheila Forster who is our Oral History Co-ordinator. Many of you may have already met Sheila as she used to work in the reference and local studies section of the old Durham City Library. Sheila has also worked for the Integrated Access team delivering basic IT courses throughout the County. Sheila has always been interested in local history and is delighted to have the opportunity to help record and preserve Durham's mining past.

Completed Courses

Another round of courses is either completed or nearly completed, examples of the research titles that has been done can be found by following the link to completed courses.

New Look Website

You may have noticed that we have a message board area on our new website. If you have any comments about our project or the new website please add your comments to the message board.
