New Project Staff Appointed
The beginning of October marked the next stage of the project. The additional
members of the team have now been appointed. The Durham Miner Project now has 6 members of staff on board, all dedicated to aiding community groups and individuals in researching their local mining history. Each member of the team has unique skills enabling the project to offer a wide range of support.
Sharon and Janet will be initiating and supporting the local history research groups. Sharon will mainly be working in the west of the county and Janet will be in the east. They will be offering free courses in Researching Local Mining History.
Sheila will be co-ordinating and supporting free courses in Mining Oral History. She will be operating throughout the county.
Jane will locate and provide access to sources of information relating to local mining history. She will be dedicated to helping groups search archives such as the Record Office.
Linda will develop a learning environment on the Durham Miner Website. This will be an electronic version of the courses offered to the groups.
Local History Courses Developed - Free to all!
Three free courses will be offered, everyone is welcome to participate. They are essentially self guided although the team is there to offer support when needed. The courses will take place out in the communities on a variety of days and times. Details of the courses can be found on this website, but should you want more information, contact the team.
Annfield Plain Family History Group Offer Support

Groups to Start in January 2003
The team will be out establishing groups and courses around the county from early January 2003. The first groups are to be developed in and around the areas of Peterlee, Seaham, and Easington in the east. Tow Law, Stanhope, Middleton in Teesdale and Crook in the west. As the project progresses, groups will be developed in all areas of the county.
