Roy Lambeth offers support to the Project
Many thanks to Roy Lambeth for providing us with numerous images of the Durham Miners Gala as well as some great Coal Board Video Footage. Roy has a wealth of information relating to Durham’s mining history and has made contributions of his knowledge to a variety of sources including but not limited to the Durham Miner Project and the Durham Mining Museum. We are pleased to be working with Roy and are looking forward to working with him more in the future.
Welcome to Sarah Irving
We welcome a new member to the
Durham Miner Project Team. Sarah has joined us to develop the logistics of the project (and to keep us all in check!!!). Although Sarah’s role will mainly keep her at head office, we hope that in her busy schedule she will be able to get out and meet members of the community.
Massive Success at Blackhall Community Event
From 13th November - 16th November the project attended a big event at
Blackhall Community Centre. This was a great success and provided an ideal opportunity to showcase our project to members of the public and to get their much-valued feedback. We received a very positive response from everyone we spoke to. We found Blackhall to be a very warm and welcoming community and we are looking forward to running our Local History Courses at Blackhall Library starting in early January.
Annfield Plain and South Moor Local History Groups commence pilot course
On the 3rd December 2002, Annfield Plain and South Moor Local History groups will commence a 3 week intensive pilot study of our local history courses. The first course would normally last 6 weeks, but the group have offered to condense this into a 3-week period so that the courses will be ready for general release around the county from January 2003. A big thank you to all the people involved.
Durham Miner on the Radio
On the 13th November, Neil Bowerbank went live on air with Durham 107FM to chat about the project. Fortunately the radio presenter took an interest in the project and prompted some positive conversation. Many thanks to Durham 107FM for your support.
Weardale Field Studies Society
On the 18th November Sharon Amesbury travelled up to the Weardale Centre in Stanhope to present our project to the Weardale Field Studies Society. She received a warm welcome from the local community and was delighted at the positive response from the people she encountered. We are looking forward to developing research groups in the area, as we believe that the people have a lot of interesting information to offer.
