The Durham Miner Image Databases is a collection of pictures relating to mining in County Durham.
Searching the Database
Please note that in order to carry out a search you must agree to comply with our copyright licensing regulations using the 'I agree' checkbox. You should ensure that you have read and understood the copyright information before searching the database.
It is possible to search the Image Database to find information by 'keyword'. Simply enter a word or phrase and click the 'Go' button.
For the best results try to be 'specific', as very general terms such as 'Mine' or 'Durham' will find lots of results and the search will take more time to find results. If you do not find the results you require, double-check the spelling of your keyword to ensure it is correct.
Search Results Page
Having clicked the 'Go' button the system will take a short time to compile a list of results that match your keyword. Once the list is complete it will appear on the 'Results page'. To view further details and see individual database entries which match your search simply click on the hyperlinked titles.
To see a map displaying all of the search results which match your criteria, click the 'See map of these results' link. Please note that only those search with less then 250 results can be displayed on a map.
Database Entries
Each entry within the Durham Miner Image Database holds some standard details, including a short description of the entry, a date, a place name, and an item type, as well as any further information which might be available. It is possible see an entry's location on a map. Please see our
Miner Mapping Help for further instruction.
You can see an enlarged version of most images within the database by clicking on them. Please be aware that all enlarged images will open in a browser window with no website navigation. To return to the original image please use your browser 'Back' button. In addition, please note that enlarged images may take longer to download than an average web page, this is due to the increased file size of the enlarged image.
