Miner Mapping

The Durham Miner Team and Durham County Council's GIS specialists (Geographical Information System) have worked in partnership to provide these facilities. Through the 'Miner Mapping' facilities on this website, we aim to provide our users with a means of viewing historical maps of the local area.

Maps of County Durham from the 1850's to present day are currently available with all County Durham mines in the same time period being referenced. Users can move around the maps and zoom in or out, before clicking on individual features to find further information.

Please use the links in the navigator to begin either a Postcode Search or to view a list of place names associated with County Durham mines.

Maps can also be accessed via links in the Image Database, from both the 'results list' and from individual 'database entries'.

Further information on how to use 'Miner Mapping' can be found in our help section.
