The Durham Miner Database is currently being developed by
Durham County Council's Cultural Services and eGovernment Services, with contrubution from Sunderland University. Information is being compiled by groups of local people who, supported by the
Durham Miner Team, are attending courses and researching local mining history.
The outcome of this research will be the interactive 'Durham Miner Database' which will hold our findings, and consist of written documents, 1000's of mining photographs, and clips of film and sound.
In addition the Miner Mapping element of the project will allow users to see historical maps of the local mining area, and the Online Learning area will provide guidance on how to access and use historical mining information. | |
Currently, as this project progresses, the collated information is being added to the Durham Miner Database behind the scenes. The finalised database will become accessible to millions of people via this website, later in the year (2003). Users will then be able to search the database online to find a variety of information covering many 'mining' related subjects.
