Durham County Half Fare Travel Permit

Eligible residents of County Durham can apply for the Durham County Half Fare Travel Permit.
The permit is available to men or women aged 60 or more, and also to adults of any age who are blind or have other disabilities that affect their mobility.

Summary of the Durham County Travel Permit Scheme

(for full terms and conditions contact the County Council's Public Transport Group): There is now no charge for the issue of the permit. The permit must be shown every time you buy a ticket and entitles you to travel at half the adult single or return fare rounded down to the nearest penny. There is no limit on travel times - you can use the permit at any time on any day. The permit can be used on all public bus services in County Durham and Darlington, on local express services and public services running only on schooldays or factory days.
You can use the permit on bus services to and from the following neighbouring counties; Darlington, Hartlepool, Teesside, Cumbria, North Yorkshire, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear, provided that you get on or get off at a stop in County Durham or Darlington. The permit may not be used for travel beyond the following points; Middlesbrough Bus Station, Penrith, Kirkby Stephen, Catterick Garrison, Northallerton Town Centre or on coach trips, excursions and National Express coach services.
The half fare permit may be used for rail travel to and from the following stations; Chester-le-Street to and from Newcastle and Middlesbrough including intermediate stations; Seaham to and from Newcastle and Middlesbrough including intermediate stations; Bishop Auckland, Shildon, Newton Aycliffe, Heighington, Darlington, Dinsdale, Durham Tees Valley Airport - between any of these stations and also to/from Allens West, Eaglescliffe, Thornaby and Middlesbrough.
The permit cannot be used on any other rail services at present. The District and Borough Councils listed below all take part in the Durham County Travel Permit Scheme and meet most of the costs but the scheme is run on their behalf by Durham County Council.
