Disability Alliance
Disability Alliance (DA), publishers of the Disability Rights Handbook, provides information on social security benefits for disabled people. You can use their site to find regularly updated information about benefits, tax credits, community care as well as disability related campaigns and parliamentary news.

A great portal site from Directgov providing information for disabled people and carers in areas such as employment, health and education. There's also advice on financial support, independent living and rights.

Disabled Students Allowances
The Disabled Students Allowances (DSAs) are available to full-time, part-time and postgraduate students. They are available to help cover any additional costs, which arise as a direct result of your disability, that you may have to pay to attend your course, such as the cost of a non-medical personal helper, major items of specialist equipment, and travel.

The Disabled Workers Co-operative is a new not-for-profit project whose aim is to create a National searchable database that will match the needs of individual customers wanting a product or service with a local disabled person who is able to provide that product or service.

Durham County Half Fare Travel Permit
Eligible residents of County Durham can apply for the Durham County Half Fare Travel Permit. The permit is available to men or women aged 60 or more, and also to adults of any age who are blind or have other disabilities that affect their mobility.
