Coast road open between Blackhall and Horden

Welfare Park opened (funded by levy from miners’ wages)

St. Andrew’s Church built (Inside out church)

Pit baths built

1957
Public library open

1981
Production ceased at Blackhall (finally closed and demolished 1986)

1983
Pit baths demolished

2002
Doctors surgery demolished. New health centre opened
