Recycling Sites

This page provides information on the Recycling Sites in County Durham:

• Household Waste Recycling Centres (formerly known as the ‘local tips’). These centres are provided by Durham County Council.
• Other Household Recycling Sites (usually located in supermarket car parks, village hall car parks, etc). These sites are provided by your local District/Borough council.

Household Waste Recycling Centres

Durham County Council has 15 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) (formerly know as the ‘local tips’). These centres are provided for the residents of County Durham to recycle or dispose of their household waste only.

If you are taking waste to the HWRC in a van, trailer or pick up you now require a permit.

Household Waste Recycling Centre Opening Times

• 16 October to 31 January - 8:30am to 3:30pm
• 1 February to 31 March - 8.00am to 4.00pm
• 1 April to 31 August - 8.00am to 8.00pm
• 1 September to 15 October - 8.00am to 6.00pm

Please note: Closed Christmas Day and New Years Day
