Fly-tipping

A dedicated hotline has been set up for any County Durham resident who witnesses incidents of fly-tipping.

The hotline is backed up by a fly-tipping officer who is responsible for investigating and prosecuting offenders if necessary.

Illegal fly-tipping costs the County Council £250,000 a year and, as well as being a blight on communities, can cause a number of environmental health problems.

Fly-tipping incident

The hotline – 0191 3835595 – is available during office hours and all calls will be treated in confidence.

The number should only be called if anyone witnesses an incident of fly-tipping and has information to be passed onto the Fly-Tipping Officer. If possible, you should make a note of the details of the incident such as the time, date, place, registration number of the vehicle involved and description of the fly-tipper.

The fly-tipping hotline is organised by a partnership between the County Council, the Environment Agency and five district councils (Durham, Easington, Teesdale, Chester-le-Street, Wear Valley and Derwentside).

If you know of any areas where rubbish is illegally tipped, you need to contact your district council to remove it. You should call:
